SwimKids Swim Schools is celebrating its’ 20th Year! And we couldn’t have reached such a milestone without YOU. Because of that we want to have a party, and you are all invited! We figured what better way to celebrate this milestone than by throwing a party for YOU, without whom we would never be here today.
Can you believe that over the past twenty years, we’ve taught over 2,000,000 swim lessons?! Back in 1997, when we started teaching swim lessons in Dave and Cindy Tonnesen’s backyard, we had no idea that in 20 years we would ever say that! In fact, Cindy will tell you that one of the reasons they started teaching swim lessons way back then, was to earn some extra money to put into a college fund to one day send their newborn son, Tyler, to college. Tyler is now 20 years old and a junior at the University of North Carolina!
While we started from humble beginnings, we soon realized we were onto something special, as our clients would rave and tell their friends what a wonderful experience they were having with their kids actually learning to swim quickly and with great technique! Over the last 20 years, we’ve counted up 23 different swimming pools we’ve taught in in the Northern Virginia area, from our own backyard to community pools, retirement homes, and health clubs. Today, SwimKids has built 4 custom designed modern facilities in Woodbridge, Leesburg, and Gainesville, VA and has 6,000 swimmers per week that come through our doors from 2 months old in Splish Splash Baby Class® all the way up to our competitive USA Swimming Stealth® Swim Team. We’ve made the Inc. 5000 list of the nation’s fastest growing companies 4 times, our founders Dave and Cindy Tonnesen have both served on the Board of Directors of the United States Swim School Association, and when we look back, we can say, "My, what an amazing journey it’s been!".
We are truly grateful each day when we come to work to see the beautiful smiles on your children’s faces as they learn and grow with us, and treasure that you’ve trusted us with the great privilege of working with them and becoming an extension of our family. Please join us and allow us to thank you, sincerely from the bottom of our hearts, for journeying with us as we grew these 20 years. It has always, and continues to be our goal, to give your family the best lessons experience. Thank you. Thank you for becoming part of our swim family, and please join us to celebrate you on May 27 from 1-4. We’ve designed a FREE outdoor carnival event just for you.
There will be opportunities to support our new partnership with Hope Floats Foundation which is raising money to give the life-saving gift of swimming to everyone by providing scholarships and tuition assistance for underprivileged kids for swim lessons. Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for children under age 5, and the second leading cause of accidental death for children under age 14. Drowning is preventable! Help us reach everyone with the gift of swimming and help us support Hope Floats. We are proud to say we recently raised over $10,000 for Hope Floats in our Swim for Hope event last month! That’s a lot of kids that we can save, and with your help, we can save even more!
